At Sirucek Chiropractic Neurology Clinic we are often asked, "what is functional neurology"?

In the past, neurologic treatment was often done solely with pharmaceuticals. However, it was later realized that pharmaceuticals do not only work on the injured areas of the brain, but they also effect the healthy areas. Not to mention the entire rest of the body. Often bringing with it many unwanted and long term side effects.

As researcher's understanding of brain function increased, more and more was being done clinically to diagnose and treat the injured areas of the brain. When clinicians started seeing changes in their patient's that had not been seen previously they knew they were on to something.

Fast forward to today, and we have functional neurology. Just as the medical profession has specialties, so too does the chiropractic profession. Functional neurology is a three year post-doctoral program that the chiropractor completes to obtain this specialty.

Functional neurology training is focused on diagnosis, treatment, and management of neurologic conditions. The only difference is that treatment is through exercises and special therapies to target and correct the injured areas of the nervous system. No prescription medications are used.
